越來越多企業選擇在成本較低，靈活性更高的雲端上擴展業務的 IT 基建。而早前已對 Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter 平台提供 beta 階段服務 Google Compute Engine 日前就宣布，其服務現時已開放予公眾使用，更支援所有版本的 Windows Server 服務。
更新主要為加入多平台支援
Google 日前宣布旗下 Compute Engine 服務現時將支援各種 Windows Server，令用戶可透過 VPN 於其雲端運算服務上運行如 Active Directory、ASP.NET 等非 Google 標準的架構。此外，Google 亦為 Windows 用戶加入多隊列 (multi-queue) 及 GSO (Generic Segmentation Offload) 功能。而其服務亦對日前正式終止支援的 Windows Server 2003 用戶具一定的吸引力。
Google Cloud Platform 產品經理 Alex Gaysinsky 解釋指，是次更新為令其用戶可於 Cloud Platform 上就運行到大部份市面上大多的 web-based 應用，好讓客戶集中投資、管理與善用手上的資源。
除 Windows Server 外，SUSE、Red Hat Enterprise Linux 及 Ubuntu 亦於是次更新之中加入到 Google Compute Engine 的支援之列。
